Bel Bailey is an artist living near Falmouth who has worked both in Devon and Cornwall. She finds inspiration through her deep connection with the sea, having spent many years, during her previous career as a GP, unwinding by playing on the sea on various boats and boards, as well as sea swimming throughout the year. She loves responding, with her art, to the moods of seasons and weather patterns. She loves the meditative process of working on refining detail and layering and always seeks to find shapes in the land, sea, atmosphere and light to inspire composition of her work. She enjoys using mixed media as well as individual media, but particularly favours oils and oil with cold wax, as well as watercolour with gouache, which she will often finish to a soft sheen with wax. She has enjoyed some fabulous courses at Newlyn School of Art and at The Poly, in Falmouth, continually developing her practice through experimentation and learning.
